At Smt S. R. Mehta & Sir K. P. Cardiac Institute, Mumbai, our Cardiothoracic Surgeons offer advanced care for patients with complex heart, lung, and chest conditions. Our team of experienced cardiothoracic surgeons, supported by state-of-the-art technology and a dedicated cardiac ICU, provides comprehensive surgical solutions including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repairs and replacements, vascular surgery, closure of SAD, VSD, thoracic surgeries, and minimally invasive procedures. With a focus on patient safety, precision, and post-operative recovery, we strive to deliver the highest standards of cardiothoracic care.
At our Cardio Thoracic Department, we offer a wide range of services, including:

CABG, or Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, is a surgical procedure to improve blood flow to the heart by bypassing blocked coronary arteries with healthy blood vessels from another part of the body. It's a common treatment for coronary artery disease, which involves the buildup of plaque in the heart's arteries.

Minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting (MICS CABG) is a surgical procedure that bypasses blocked coronary arteries without the need for a full sternotomy (splitting the breastbone). Instead, surgeons access the heart through a small incision between the ribs, typically on the left side of the chest. This approach offers several potential benefits, including reduced pain, faster recovery, and a lower risk of complications compared to traditional, open-chest CABG.Â

Valvular heart surgery involves repairing or replacing a damaged heart valve, often due to valvular heart disease. This can be done through open-heart surgery or minimally invasive techniques, with the choice depending on the valve condition and patient health. Open-heart surgery involves a larger incision and stopping the heart to perform the procedure, while minimally invasive techniques use smaller incisions and may utilize catheters.Â

Surgical closure of Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) involves repairing a hole in the heart's septum (the wall separating the heart's chambers). ASD closure typically uses patches or sutures during open-heart surgery or a catheter-based procedure, while VSD closure usually involves open-heart surgery.Â
